Synopsis:
On the Masterforge, the Legendary Ranger Teens and the Morphinaut feel the aftershock of the smoking crater on Earth’s surface. At the mysterious crash site, their new powers and skill sets are put to the test against a horde of Foot Soldiers! But what happens when their powers start to fail… and even begin to turn against them?

Story — 3 out of 5: You know, without a subplot, this issue really felt like one act between commercial breaks. It was just really fast. What I did like though, was taking established character traits, and using those during the corruption scene. These are brand new characters that have only been around for these 5 issues, but we knew enough about them, and their insecurities, that the scene made total sense, and nothing that was said was surprising. I like the cliffhanger as well.

Art — 3 out of 5: So, are these Rangers able to fly or not? During the fight, they barely keep their feet on the ground. And I’m not sure what’s going on on page 6, which you can also see in the preview above. Morphinaut is getting hit by something, but I cant tell how Chendil is attacking him. Once things slow down a bit, the art gets much better, despite losing track of Kartor after he mentions at problem with the energy spiking. The change to the eyes, and the purple wisps, are good artistic indicators of what is happening, even if the characters don’t seem to notice.

Overall — 3 out of 5: Confusing art, and only 5 minutes of story make this hard to recommend. And I’m really starting to wonder if there were some last minute changes that aren’t doing the creative team any favors. This issue does not match the synopsis from the solicitation at all. No crater, no powers failing or turning against them. This would explain a lot of the problems I’ve had with this series if they’ve had to rush their work to make deadlines. Hopefully, they’ll be able to stick the landing in next month’s finale.
