Synopsis:
Chapter 2 of DARKEST HOUR — The BIGGEST Power Rangers event yet!
If three relationships at their breaking point weren’t enough chaos for Trini, Zack, Kimberly, and Tommy,
Aisha and Matt have dark magic and possession to contend with! Will their combined efforts be enough to break the evil spell, or will interpersonal conflict leave Matt to his vile fate?
Story — 5 out of 5: After last issue ended with Adam and Rocky all alone, this issue reveals what happened to the other Rangers. As seen in the preview pages above, Billy is in the Morphin Grid with Grace. How this possible is explained, and also leads to him getting a pep talk, which he’s been needing for awhile.
The others are also accounted for, and we get some nice character interactions as they all try to figure out what happened, where they are, and how they are going to survive.
Melissa Flores continues to blend show and comic continuity very well, with callbacks to the past that are not forced, yet also help move things forward. The cliffhanger she has set up is so far out of left field, but I cannot wait to see how this development is utilized in the story.
Art — 5 out of 5: Hendry Prasetya was the first artist on BOOM’s Power Ranger comics, and its great to see him return here. This issue is more about character interaction than actual action, but he handles both very well, keeping things interesting for the reader. And I still love his version of the helmets teleporting on and off the Rangers.
Overall — 5 out of 5: Considering this is part 2 of a year long story, you’d want to be sure to get it regardless. But with great writing and beautiful art, you will enjoy the heck out of it. Be sure to check it out when it comes out on 9/27. And if you want a physical copy, go to Comic Shop Locator to find the nearest comic shop near you!
